Asian hopefuls in do-or-die deciders (FIFA.com), asean news
ASEAN sides are aiming to make more of an impact than four years ago as Asia's second qualifying round for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ reaches its decisive second leg on Thursday.
In qualifying for South Africa 2010 only Thailand and Singapore progressed into the third stage representing the South-East Asian region. This time around, however, it looks likely that they will have their presence more strongly felt. With either Malaysia or Singapore to advance, Thailand travel to Palestine with a 1-0 lead while Indonesia return home with the away-goal advantage they accrued in Turkmenistan.
Having won their first legs at home, the ten higher ranked West Asian winners are expected to round off the campaign in perfect fashion. While a place in the next stage should be within the grasp of the majority, Syria must remain wary of the resilient Tajikistan who boast an away goal despite losing the opening leg 2-1. With these games and many others in store, FIFA.com runs the rule over the enticing match-ups ahead.
The game
Indonesia-Turkmenistan
The two sides are among the closest rivals of the fifteen pairings, with Indonesia ranked just eleven places above Turkmenistan. Their first-leg outcome didn't suggest otherwise, with midfielder Muhammad Ilham striking on the hour-mark to cancel out Vyacheslav Krendelev's opener to seal a 1-1 draw in Ashgabat. The result leaves them tied in their qualifying head-to-head record, having each boasted a 3-1 home win on the road to Germany 2006. The winning side in the return game will not only book their place in the next stage but also tilt the balance in their favour.
The start to the tie marked a positive beginning for Indonesia's new boss Wilhelmus Rijsbergen, who replaced Austrian Alfred Riedl a week prior to Saturday's first leg. Now playing on home soil, the ASEAN side can capitalise on the away goal and progress to the third stage for the first time with just a goalless draw. Coach Yazguly Hojageldiyev's charges, though, can take heart from their performance four years ago, where victory saw them storm into the third phase. Ultimately they finished with the wooden spoon behind the likes of Korea Republic, Korea DPR and Jordan.
The other head-line grabbers
Still lamenting the numerous chances they squandered against Palestine, Thailand's new German coach Winfried Schafer admitted the away game will be tough. Despite their one-goal cushion, his outfit will have to overcome the fatigue of travel, the fervent home supporters and a determined Palestinian team in Al Ram, where the two sides will compete on an artificial pitch. Still, the Land of Smiles possess the pedigree and experience to break into the third round for the second successive time if they can maintain their performance level.
The 5-3 first-leg defeat in Singapore leaves Malaysia still in a desperate search for their first win over their neighbours since 2004. The two-goal advantage, allied with their unbeaten record over the recent years, provides the Lions with a clear mental edge going into the away fixture. However, they must remain wary of the Malayan Tigers' impressive form on home soil – they crushed Indonesia 3-0 in last December's AFF Championship final before going on to lift the trophy 4-1 on aggregate.
Another close tie worth mentioning is Tajikistan versus Syria, whose 2-1 home victory extended their winning tally against the Central Asians to four. In their previous qualifying attempt the West Asians made it through to the third stage after thrashing Indonesia 11-1 on aggregate, and despite the narrow lead they are still very much the team to beat.
Elsewhere, India's hopes of their first trip to the third round were dealt a double blow in their 3-0 defeat by United Arab Emirates. Facing an uphill task in the home match, they must make do with the suspension of defender Debabrata Roy and goalkeeper Subrata Pal, who were both sent off as they stumbled in the first leg.
With few realistic hopes to overcome their significant first-leg deficits, both Nepal and Laos are left with only pride to play for when they entertain Jordan and China respectively. This can also be said of the likes of Hong Kong, Philippines and Vietnam who, having lost the first legs by the identical 3-0 scoreline, will look to show a sign of their progress.
Player to watch
Vietnam’s Le Cong Vinh may lead the qualifying scoring-chart with 7 goals, but the second leg provides China's Yang Xu (three goals) with a chance to close the gap.
What they said
"Thailand is a good team. We did not start well but we are pleased that we lost only 1-0. I still believe that we will beat Thailand and qualify for the next round." Palestine coach Moussa Bezaz

Young Confident England qualified for Euro 2012 Qualifying
LONDON, KOMPAS.com - England winger, Ashley Young, said the team still have a chance to qualify for the Euro 2012 finals despite recently held 2-2 by Switzerland in qualifying, Saturday or Sunday (06/05/2011 ) early morning hrs.
Moreover, the British still controlled the standings with 11 points, one point ahead of nearest rival, Montenegro, which has one match postponed. So, England have to win three games remaining to secure their chances of qualifying for the European Cup preliminary round at the Ukraine-Poland later.
"We are a great team and have a great squad we've set. We have another tough three games, but we'll deal with it and show our best game to get nine points so we aim to play," said Young told ITV after the game.
"I think, especially in the second half, we created many chances. We did get the points, but we're disappointed," he continued.
When asked to comment about the two goals which was considered a result of blunders Swiss goalkeeper Joe Hart, Young replied, "I'm not too sure what happens when the Swiss goal. However, it has passed.

Clarification regarding 2022 FIFA World Cup dates
Following some media reports today, FIFA and its President would like to clarify the following about the 2022 FIFA World Cup dates:
- The 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups are based on FIFA’s international match calendar and this applies also to Qatar. This is what is written in the relevant documents signed by Qatar as hosts of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
- As such, as it stands today, the 2022 FIFA World Cup is planned to be staged in Qatar, in summer.
- Any potential change to the above should first be requested by the competition organizers, ie Qatar, and presented to the FIFA Executive Committee for analysis.
- The FIFA President has not said whether or not the 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place in winter or in summer, but has simply explained what would be the process for any potential changes to the current status.

Familiar foes face friendly tests
Familiar foes face friendly tests
(FIFA.com) Tuesday 8 February 2011
International football makes a comeback on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a fixture list boasting 52 friendly games, many of which are not lacking in intrigue or star quality. Six weeks prior to the next round of UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying matches and four months before the kick-off to the 2011 Copa America, national sides will be looking for a welcome morale boost ahead of a return to competitive business.
Among the highlights this week are repeats of the 1982 and 1998 FIFA World Cup™ Finals, between Germany and Italy, and France and Brazil respectively. Elsewhere, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi take their rivalry on to the international stage as part of a highly anticipated clash between Portugal and Argentina. Out-of-form world champions Spain are also in action, as are England, who face a tricky trip to Denmark.
The big match
Germany-Italy, Dortmund, Signal Iduna Park
Prandelli has also brought two new faces into his squad, namely Thiago Motta, the Brazil-born naturalised Italian, and on-song forward Alessandro Matri, who moved on loan from Cagliari to Juventus during the transfer window.
While this match will conjure up memories of Spain 1982, it also offers the home side an opportunity to gain some revenge for their epic 2-0 extra-time defeat at the hands of the Italians in the semi-final of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, in the very same stadium. The meeting between two of Europe’s big guns on Wednesday is the latest in a long line of highly contested affairs; the countries have played 29 times, with Italy winning 14, Germany seven and eight matches ending in draws.
Both coaches have put faith in players currently displaying excellent domestic form, hence Joachim Low’s decision to once again leave out Michael Ballack and include five players from high-flying Borussia Dortmund: Mario Gotze, Mats Hummels, Kevin Grosskreutz, Marcel Schmelzer and Sven Bender, who could make his international debut.
Opposite number Cesare Prandelli has the double satisfaction of welcoming back experienced goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who has not turned out for La Nazionale since sustaining an injury at South Africa 2010, as well as the eternally contentious figure of Antonio Cassano, who appears to have found a new lease of life at AC Milan, despite not playing for two months prior to joining the Rossoneri.
Elsewhere
Brazil coach Mano Menezes, whose recent selection decisions have seen the average age of the South Americans’ squad drop from 28 to 25, continues his quest for the perfect playmaker. To this end, he has called up both Jadson from Shakhtar Donetsk and Bayer Leverkusen’s Renato Augusto and has offered Alexandre Pato another chance to shine.
While the Canarinho coach has strengthened the team’s defensive and ball-winning qualities, he is still looking for the right formula going forward. That said, fans’ demands for a return to o jogo bonito (the beautiful game) appear to have been heeded, following the less expansive game practiced during Dunga’s time in charge.
In the opposing dugout, France supremo Laurent Blanc has begun to reap the rewards of moulding a close-knit, confident squad, even though some of the players he has called up, such as Yoann Gourcuff and Karim Benzema, are presently exhibiting some patchy form at club level.
Another coach in the process of rebuilding is Sergio Batista, who has made it clear to his Argentina players that winning the upcoming Copa America should be viewed as a top priority. The former FIFA World Cup-winner has left out a host of big names for the match against Portugal in Geneva, including Carlos Tevez, Martin Demichelis, Gabriel Heinze, Sergio Aguero and Mario Bolatti, as well as the injured Gonzalo Higuain.
Two players who are sure to play a part – on opposite sides of the pitch – are Ronaldo and Messi. With 24 goals apiece in the Spanish top tier this season, both defences will need to be at their most alert to subdue the talented pair.
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque, who was awarded the honorary title of Marquis by King Juan Carlos on Friday, has seen his world champions fall from grace in recent months, as they succumbed to resounding 4-1 and 4-0 defeats to Argentina and Portugal respectively. Despite the absences of Carles Puyol and Cesc Fabregas, the Spanish squad, which contains seven Barcelona players and five from Real Madrid, should still have too much strength in depth to be troubled by midweek opponents Colombia.
The Three Lions’ fitness problems pale in comparison to those affecting the Dutch squad, which have seen Nigel de Jong, Robin van Persie and Rafael van der Vaart all pull out, this with coach Bert van Marwijk having already decided to rest the recently recuperated Arjen Robben. The game against Austria will consequently provide 20-year-old Utrecht midfield man Kevin Strootman with a chance to stake his claim for a place in the team.
England, deprived of the services of Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard through injury, and coming off the back of a 0-0 draw with Montenegro and a 2-1 defeat to France, will look to turn things around away to Denmark.
Player to watch
Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari, previously expelled from the national side for disciplinary reasons, has been recalled by new Serbian coach Goran Stevanovic for the Black Stars’ friendly encounter with Togo on Tuesday. The match represents a pivotal moment in the career of the combative midfielder, who, having been dropped from Ghana’s 2010 CAF Africa Cup of Nations squad, was then disciplined following the defeat to Uruguay in the FIFA World Cup quarter-final in South Africa a few months later.
What they said
“I certainly don’t want to see a repeat of what happened against Portugal. The players have to realise that they should always try to give the best possible account of themselves when they are representing their national side, and never view it as just another match, because there are a lot of players waiting in the wings who would be glad to take their place.” Spain coach Vicente del Bosque.
The stat
1992 – The year of Brazil’s last triumph over France (a 2-0 friendly win). Since then, Les Bleus have notched up four victories and two draws in fixtures between the sides. Their last defeat to the Brazilians in a competitive match dates all the way back to the semi-final of the 1958 FIFA World Cup in Sweden, won 5-2 by A Seleção.

Hosts Qatar stumble to opening defeat
Hosts Qatar stumble to opening defeat
(FIFA.com) Friday 7 January 2011
The 2011 edition of the AFC Asian Cup kicked off on Friday at the Khalifa Stadium, with a spectacular party featuring fireworks and laser-light displays illuminating the skies of the Qatari capital of Doha.
The opening ceremony began with a speech by the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, before the spotlight shone on an elderly gentleman and child who addressed the Qatari ruler. As part of the stunning laser-light show that followed, a football pitch was traced out, onto which the flags of the 16 competing nations were projected.
Next up were fireworks exploding all around the stadium, in a glittering pyrotechnic display which lasted for several minutes and wowed the watching spectators. Yet the home fans’ awe soon turned to disappointment when hosts Qatar were beaten by Uzbekistan in the tournament’s opening game.
The matchQatar 0-2 Uzbekistan, Khalifa Stadium, Doha, Friday 7 January 2011Not even the most pessimistic of Qatari fans would have expected the Annabi to make such a bad start to the tournament, particularly with the vast majority of the 37,000 spectators packing the stadium giving vociferous support right from the off. Yet it was Uzbekistan who started the brighter and dominated proceedings early on, very nearly taking a 7th-minute lead when Alexander Geynrikh’s shot rattled the crossbar.
The hosts, for their part, had to wait until the 39th minute for their best chance, with Fabio Cesar curling a free-kick against the right post. However, that was as good as it got with Uzbekistan opening the scoring in the 58th minute via a stunning strike from Odil Ahmedov, whose shot struck the underside of the crossbar before nestling in the back of the net. And with 14 minutes remaining Server Djeparov capitalised on a defensive mistake from Qatar to make it 2-0, thus setting the seal on an unexpected win for Uzbekistan and a stuttering start for the host nation.
The starServer Djeparov, UzbekistanVoted Asia’s best player in 2008, Djeparov played a pivotal role in midfield for the Uzbeks. The creator of several chances for strikers Alexander Geynrikh and Maksim Shatskikh, the 28-year-old also made 41 completed passes and three interceptions. The most important of these came in the 76th minute, when he intercepted a loose back-pass from substitute Khalfan Ibrahim before beating Qatar keeper Qasem Burhan with a first-time shot.
The stat51 – The number of passes made by Uzbekistan midfielder Ahmedov during the game, which worked out as 13 per cent of his team’s total. Also the scorer of a thumping goal for his side, Ahmedov and Co’s opening victory will give them a huge boost in a group which also contains China PR and Kuwait.
What they said“We’re very happy to win the game but I'm very sorry for the Qatari people because this was a big celebration for them, but that’s football. I’ve watched the Qatari team before and I know how they play. So we planned to play like this and everything went according to plan. We got the three points today and we are happy now but we must not relax. We will enjoy this now but tomorrow we will start looking to the next match. The fact that we beat Qatar today will help us in our next game,” Uzbekistan coach Vadim Abramov.
“Today is a very bad start for our team. We wanted to play well for the people, for everybody but we played a very bad game today. I'm sorry for the fans, for everybody but sometimes it is very difficult to play well right from the start of a tournament, particularly with the pressure on the players. Sometimes the opening game is very difficult; it's not the first time a host team has lost their first game. It is important to protect the players. If there is a problem, a mistake, it's down to me,” Qatar coach Bruno Metsu.

2010 Asian Games in China - Doing for Guangzhou What the Olympics Did for Beijing By Brett Hartley-Wilson
With the pan-Asian sporting games heading to China in 2010 it is the hope of the people of Guangzhou that these games can do to their city what the Olympic did for Beijing and to a lesser extent what the World Expo has done for Shanghai. After winning the right to host the games in 2004 (as the sole bidder) the city has been working furiously to give itself a major makeover in time to impress its major neighbours.
Guangzhouhas always been considered one of China's largest and most important cities and has been chosen by the central government to be the symbol of China for this regionally important event. The games themselves include 42 different events including many that would never make the Olympics (think chess, dragon boat racing and kabaddi!) that give it a distinctive Asian flavour.get medals for asian country china, korea, japan is domination
But what does it mean for Guangzhou? It means that the central government have been throwing trucks of money at the city, (especially because private partnerships have been hard to come by during the GFC), it's a poorly kept secret that the games have blown way over initially budgets and despite the head of the Guangzhou Organising Committee assuring that the games would be kept below 2 billion Yuan ($293 million US dollars) it was last estimated that the games have already cost up to 4 billion. This exorbitant amount of money has paid for the construction of half-a-dozen new sports stadiums, countless citywide beautification projects, the relaying of major roads and two new extensive subway lines, as well as a ferocious education campaign instructing the citizens of Guangzhou about acting in a more 'civilized way' when the games start.
Make no mistake though; the investment is just about worth it. Despite the 2008 Olympic Games being almost entirely written off by the government the infrastructure and projects create in the lead up to that event have left a lasting impact on Beijing well after the carnival had packed up and moved on. Many of the most important marks left on Beijing are the things that have gone unseen; the planting of thousands of acres of trees in the deserts of Northern China have made sandstorms in the capital less frequent, the restrictions on driving cars on certain days of the week has reduced emissions in the capital has reduced emissions by 20% and even the block-by-block campaign to make Beijingers less Chinese and more compatible with foreign cultures (that includes at least trying to line up) has left a seemingly indelible albeit limited trace, not to mention the major capital works like new subway lines that residents now enjoy.
get medals for asian country china, korea, japan is domination
It's clear that the Chinese get it more so than many other countries that have hosted these large-scale events; yes it's showing off, building the biggest stadium, holding the most dazzling opening ceremony, seemingly recruiting every student in the country to get behind the movement, but it's also more than that, it is fitting that a country with over 4,000 years of history has the capacity of long-term, and that ultimately the entity that will benefit most from these Asian games is not the athletes or the officials but the city itself, and the millions of people who depend on it for their livelihood.
Guangzhou, an important Chinese city with more than 2800 years' history, is waiting for your attention during the Asian Games from Nov.11 to No.27, 2010. And China is worth your exploring.

Headline-making hat-tricks from Didier Drogba and Paul Hartley and shock results for Benfica, Sporting and Boca Juniors feature in FIFA.com’s latest statistical review, with Sevilla’s Frederic Kanoute also in focus.
21
goals in their last three home matches – an average of seven per game – is the incredible tally that Chelsea’s 6-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday helped to establish. The English champions ended last season in sparkling home form with 7-0 and 8-0 victories over Stoke City and Wigan Athletic respectively, and this latest Stamford Bridge drubbing represents the biggest-ever opening day win in Premier League history. Didier Drogba was the Baggies’ tormentor-in-chief with a hat-trick that took him on to 134 Chelsea goals, beyond the legendary Jimmy Greaves into sixth place in the club’s list of all-time leading marksmen. Frank Lampard was also on target and has now scored six Premier League goals in opening-weekend fixtures, a tally that only Alan Shearer (8) and Teddy Sheringham (7) can better.
9
opening-day matches without a win for Academica and 14 consecutive home victories for Benfica: these were the statistics that greeted the visitors at the Estadio da Luz on Day 1 of the Portuguese Liga season. Ninety minutes later, however, the Coimbra outfit were celebrating a famous triumph, secured in dramatic fashion when a glorious 35-yard curler from Laionel in the final minute of injury time secured a 2-1 win for the ten-man underdogs. Benfica’s city rivals, Sporting, fared no better, going down 1-0 to Pacos de Ferreira in their first opening-day defeat in 15 years. Porto, on the other hand, did start with a victory, and their rivals may be perturbed to know that Os Dragões have claimed the title in each of the last five seasons in which they have won their opening fixture.
4
wins from their last ten matches at the Bombonera is the disappointing return that has seen Boca Juniors claim just 46 per cent of available points in their home stadium this year. The legendary arena, renowned for its intimidating atmosphere, has often been a fortress, with Boca’s point ratio standing at 85 per cent in 2008. However, Los Xeneizes’ subsequent slide is reflected in a rate of 52 per cent in 2009 and a further drop this year. Indeed, with two games played in the current Apertura – and the fortunes of old rivals River Plate finally reviving – Boca are languishing in the bottom half of the table having taken just one point from six.
3
goals, all from the penalty spot, provided Paul Hartley with a dream Aberdeen debut. The veteran Scotland midfielder, who was immediately made captain at Pittodrie following his close-season arrival, joined the club with only one goal to his name in 2010. However, by dispatching all three spot kicks in a 4-0 opening day win over Hamilton Academical, Hartley became the only player in the history of the Scottish Premier League to score a hat-trick of penalties. The former Celtic and Hearts stalwart also became the first Aberdeen player in 104 years – since Augustus Lowe in 1904 – to mark his debut with a treble.
2
goals against Barcelona in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup final left Frederic Kanoute on 107 for Sevilla and continued his climb up the club’s scoring charts. The Malian’s double in a 3-1 win over the champions left him 32 goals short of Pato Araujo, who sits second in Los Rojiblancos’ all-time standings on 139. Juan Arza, who scored 182 times for the club during 1940s and ‘50s, is their all-time leading scorer, and Kanoute – who last year surpassed Davor Suker as Sevilla’s best-ever foreign marksman - may find that tally a little tougher to match. A more pressing concern for the former African Footballer of the Year, however, will be denying Barça a record eighth Super Cup when the teams resume hostilies on Saturday.

France fail to fire against Tunisia (FIFA.com) Sunday 30 May 2010
France's preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ suffered a reality check on Sunday when the 2006 finalists had to come from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw against non-qualifiers Tunisia.
France turned up in Rades on the back of Wednesday's confidence-boosting 2-1 win over Costa Rica in Lens. Like in that match France's top scorer Thierry Henry found himself on the bench with manager Raymond Domenech preferring to start Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka.
Hugo Lloris was back in goal after having ceded his place to Steve Mandanda who failed to advertise his claims against Costa Rica. The rest of the side was the same as Domenech stuck with his new 4-3-3 formation.
The match was a personal milestone for Domenech, who drew level with former manager Michel Hidalgo's record of 75 matches in charge of the national side. The 58-year-old Domenech, who succeeded Jacques Santini after UEFA EURO 2004, is stepping down to be replaced by Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc after the FIFA World Cup.
Les Bleus fall behind
France failed to assert as they had done last Wednesday and were behind by as early as the sixth minute when lax defending resulted in Isaam Jemaa tapping in past Lloris. Tunisia had the French backline on the rack two minutes later when Ben Khalfallah charged goalbound unchallenged down the centre in a one-on-one with Lloris but the danger petered out after he elected to pass to his left with the move petering out.

France, notably with a searing shot from Franck Ribery which skimmed just wide of the near post, had their chances but went into the break trailing. Domenech tinkered with his second half cast list, introducing Henry on the left and debutant Marc Planus for Ribery and Eric Abidal.
France got their much sought after leveller in the 62nd minute when William Gallas headed in Yoann Gourcuff's floating 30m free-kick from close range, a welcome fillip for central defender Gallas who is back in FIFA World Cup contention after a calf injury. The Arsenal back and Gourcuff were two of the few bright points of France's performance.
France have one remaining warm-up, against China in Reunion on Friday, before their FIFA World Cup campaign opens on 11 June against Uruguay.

World Cup 2010 Group B Predictions:
Group B Order of Finishing Predictions:
1 - Argentina
2 - Nigeria
3 - Greece
4 - South Korea
Our Group B World Cup predictions are nothing too surprising as we believe Argentina and Nigeria will advance to the round of 16. Argentina is full of talent with the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero ans Carlos Tevez. Although their head coach Deigo Maradona isn't too popular, I predict he will do just fine in leading them out of the first round without much problems. The Nigeria roster is full of solid players, and it will come down to how well they can perform under pressure. They didn't play their best in their qualification group, but I look to them to have a strong round in Group B and place second to advance. Greece may surprise some people, as I predict they will play Argentina tough, but in the end I don't see them advancing without a slip from Nigeria. South Korea cannot be over looked in this Group B, but I don't think any of these countries will have a problem with beating them.

World Cup 2010 Group C Predictions:
Group C Order of Finishing Predictions:
1 - England
2 - USA
3 - Slovenia
4 - Algeria
With England and USA getting a fairly easy draw, we aren't predicting anything crazy for Group C of the World Cup. England and USA should both be advancing on to the next round without too much troubles. England may be one of the best teams in this World Cup 2010 tournament, and none of these teams will slow them down in the opening round. USA will have it tough against David Beckham and the rest of the England squad in their first game. That game may prove to be a statement game for the US, but nonetheless they will advance on to the second round. Algeria played tough beating Egypt, and have the opportunity to upset Slovenia and possibly the USA, but it isn't likely. Slovenia, ranked 33rd in the world, will most likely be battling it out with Algeria for third place in this Group C.

World Cup 2010 Group D Predictions:
Group D Order of Finishing Predictions:
1 - Germany
2 - Australia
3 - Ghana
4 - Serbia
Group D was a tough one to predict. One thing we believe is for sure is that Germany will make it to the knockout stages. The other qualifying place in Group D will be up for grabs between Australia, Serbia and Ghana. All three of these countries have a legitimate chance of making it onto the round of 16, and it could very well come down to an exciting finish on June 23rd when Australia meets Serbia and Ghana takes on Germany. Our pick is for Australia to place second in Group D and advance to the knockout stages. Coming through a tougher Asian region this time around, these Socceroos know what it takes to win. Look for Australia to edge Ghana in their match and advance with a win against Serbia.
