think they have a great attitude about sports - until we talk about
how perfectionism can hold them back from reaching their potential.

Don't get me wrong. There are some advantages of perfectionism such
as having a strong work ethic, commitment to your goals, and a
willingness to learn and improve, which often disguise this mental
roadblock to success.

Having some perfectionism can help you achieve a few goals
quicker and get you to 75% of your potential, but after that
you have to remove the hard-to-detect mental roadblocks that
perfectionism presents.

There can be many disadvantages of trying to be too perfect with
your performance and if not kept in check can stifle your talent,
such as strict expectations, fear of failure, anxiety, and
worrying too much about results.

I have found it very hard to convince athletes who want to be
perfect that it really does hold them back in sports. They resist
having to change behavior that has helped them achieved some past
goals.

One of the problems with perfectionism is you unknowingly adopt
very high expectations. Not achieving your expectation can result
in high frustration and feelings of failure.

A couple years ago, a top 10 NASCAR driver approached me with a
specific problem he was experiencing in races. He said that when
the race did not go according to plan, he would become very
agitated, frustrated, and lose confidence altogether.

It was clear to me that his past success as a driver was actually
working against him. Why? He had won races at every level of his
career and his main goal was to win races and contend. But as time
went on, his goals about winning turned into expectations about
winning.

He badly wanted to win races. His high expectations about winning
actually made him feel frustrated and helpless.

When something went wrong with the equipment, such as a flat tire,
this did not fit his expectations of winning or contending. An
athlete will likely become upset, frustrated, and even lose
confidence when he or she can't meet strict demands set for
performance.

Perfectionists think that maintaining strict expectations is what
every athlete should do because it sounds good and the other option
of accepting mediocrity - is unbearable! But I have a different take
on this...

If not reaching your expectations causes you to become frustrated
and lose composure - this will block you from achieving your full
potential in sports.

Thus, I teach my students (1) to identify and discard strict
expectations and (2) to let go of frustration so they can stay
composed after mistakes and perform in the present moment without
dwelling on the past.

E-book readers (or digital readers as they are also called) are all the rage today. It seems that every time we turn around another major player is releasing, or planning on releasing a new electronic reading device. At the present time Amazon's Kindle reader is the top choice among consumers.

Today, the average price of the e-book readers on the market is about $300. The average price had been closer to $400 until recently when Amazon dropped the Kindle price down some.
Many consumers, unfamiliar with e-book readers, refuse to spend that much money on a device that many have never even held before, let alone use. It is expected however, that sometime in 2010, the prices may drop again due to many more electronics companies promising to release new digital readers before year's end.



Electronics company Acer announced in January at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas that it plans on releasing a family of readers before the end of this year. While Acer is not one of the world's favorite electronics manufacturers compared to say, Sony or Samsung, it does deserve recognition for making the mini laptop wildly popular. Its micro laptops did indeed sell like lemonade on a hot summer day and they are still doing well today. The interesting aspect of the Acer announcement is the fact that these devices will most certainly be priced well below that of the current average price, which will undoubtedly drive down the costs of all of the readers being sold-which is great news for the consumer!

Today I want to show you an easy way to solve a common problem that causes many sites to fail to rank as well as they should.
The problem is that web developers are unaware of the principle of First Link Priority. The bad news is that many sites, especially those with a large number of pages, don’t get the rankings they should because they don’t handle first link priority properly.
The good news is that once you’re aware of the problem, it’s very easy to fix and avoid in the future.
First Link Prioritisation occurs when Google looks at a webpage and analyses its outbound links.
The First Link Priority rule states that when a page links more than once to the same target page, Google will completely ignore all links after the first, often with negative SEO consequences.
Take a look at this example diagram below.

In our example, Page A links to Page B twice. The first link is a graphical link, (in this case a banner image at the top of the page), whilst the second link is in the navigation bar and is a keyword-rich link with optimised anchor text.
The second link is put there for SEO value, and is what we want Google to see, (the anchor text in the link infers meaning), however, Google will completely ignore it. Instead Google only sees the graphical link (which contains no anchor text). The keyword rich link is of no value
(And no, for the curious, putting an “Alt” tag on the image link won’t serve as a substitute to anchor text).
The result is that the target page gets the PageRank “juice” passed to it, but not anchor text relevance, which is a valuable source of optimisation, so rankings suffer.
Now, at this point, I should clarify that when Google evaluates the links pointing to a page, it will count links from any page in its index, including both links from other pages on your website (internal links) and links from pages around the Internet at large (external links).

The links you get from around the Internet are often harder to control and in most cases don’t repeat on a page (so first link priority doesn’t become an issue). But, it’s actually very common within a web page to link to a target page twice, so generally, First Link priority problems occur within your website. This is great, because internal linking structure is pretty easy to control.
