The Cheltenham Gold Cup
The Cheltenham Gold Cup
By Dave Bartholemew
The Cheltenham Gold Cup is known as the Blue Riband of jump racing and the race is the most valuable National Hunt chase in Britain. Held at the world famous Cheltenham Festival, the race is ran over more than three miles and twenty-two fences.
* The first horse race known as the Cheltenham Gold Cup was ran back in July 1819 but that race was a flat race and was won by a horse called Spectre.
* The Gold Cup has been run at the 'new course' at Cheltenham since 1959 and in the mid 1960s was dominated by a horse called Arkle who won the race three times on the trot. Such was the dominance of the horse that bookmakers would only offer a starting price of 1/10, the shortest-priced winner in the race's history.
* The Cheltenham Festival now takes place over four days in March with one championship race on each day, climaxing with the Gold Cup on Friday. Unlike other meeting in Britain and Ireland, the meeting does not attract many international contenders but that does not in any way detract from the event's popularity.
* The meeting is hugely popular with Irish visitors as it coincides with Saint Patrick's day and they visit Cheltenham in their thousands to soak up the atmosphere and place huge sums on their favourite horses.
* Irish jockey, Ruby Walsh has dominated the festival in recent years being the top winning jockey in 2004, 2006 and 2008 - 10.
Thanks to the rivalry between the English and Irish jockeys, trainers and horses, the Cheltenham Festival and its climax the Gold Cup is unique in world horse racing. An event keen horse racing punters won't want to miss.

One Major Fear that Limits Athletes, bola
Is your potential held back by fear? If you can't breakthrough your
performance barriers and are spinning your wheels, it's a good bet
that you are limited by a wall of worry - your own fears.
What is fear? Fear comes in many forms - fear of failure, fear of
success, fear of embarrassment, and so on. Many of my students hit
a wall of worry caused by these fears and many others.
More than any other fear, fear of failure limits athletes from
performing their best and can cause athletes to give up their dreams
in sports.
Do you feel like you are constantly banging you head against an
imaginary wall because you work harder and harder to perform your
best, but only become more frustrated with a lack of improvement
or results?
For many athletes, it is far easier to work harder and harder than
to address their internal demons that hold them back.
Most athletes will make a change in strategy or technique to improve
performance way before they attempt to look inside at self-
sabotaging beliefs.
It does not matter how hard you work at your sport unless you work
effectively and work on the right areas. And all the hard work you
do to race towards your athletic goals can backfire when you hit
a brick wall of worry caused by fear of failure.
The bottom line... Most athletes have lofty goals, love to train
hard, and want to be successful.
BUT they are too engrossed with their regular practice routines
to stop and address the biggest roadblock on the path of success
- fear of failure and beliefs that limit your physical potential.
Several mental game challenges are stuck to fear of failure like
flypaper, such as low self-confidence, worry about making mistakes,
fear of rejection or embarrassment, and the list goes on.
One of the biggest downsides of fear of failure is having an intense
avoidance mindset. Athletes with an avoidance mindset strive to avoid
pain instead of striving for success. These athletes' minds are
conditioned to avoid making mistakes and emotional pain at all costs.
The first place to start in order to stop fear of failure is to
identify what type of fear causes you to bang your head against
the imaginary wall of worry. Keep in mind that most of these fears
are born out of an intense desire to succeed or to avoid negative
social scrutiny.
Most athletes with fear of failure are afraid to fail or lose because
they work so hard to achieve their goals and succeed. This intense
desire to succeed causes athletes to worry about not getting what
they badly want.
An athlete becomes so worried about not achieving (or gaining social
recognition) that he or she thinks too much about avoiding failure.
The next step or change you must make to breakthrough the wall of
worry is to focus your mind on striving for success instead of
avoiding failure. When you focus your mind on obtaining success,
you will come closer to obtaining it.
One more tip for today...Make sure that all the mental pictures or
movies in your mind help you strive for success rather than cause
you to avoid failure.

bola- 10 'Deadly' Mental Game Blunders
Recently I asked for help from my readers. I wanted to
know your top pregame stress.
The response was overwhelming. We received many emails and
blog posts about how pregame anxiety stifles athletes
performance. So thank you.
Worry about results and performance was the number one stress
producer for athletes. A typical comment was:
"I am most worried about how I will perform in the game
and that leads me to feel anxiety."
I wanted to give you an "inside look" at my new program, titled
The Relaxed Athlete (the 5th program in The Confident Athlete
Series).
But that's not all! I have another surprise for you! On this
same page, you can access a free report titled...
"The 10 "Deadly" Mistakes Athletes Make
With Their Pregame Attitude"
In this PDF report, I describe the top 10 mental game mistakes
that athletes make prior to competition. I also outline the
six most important mental game objectives of your pre-
competition preparation.
Please watch my video and download the free report. Then
tell me if you agree with my assessment and please send me your
challenges about pregame anxiety.

Why Some European Countries Are Resistant to Adopting the Euro As Their Currency
Why Some European Countries Are Resistant to Adopting the Euro As Their Currency
By Hobson Tarrant
The principle of having a single currency throughout the adjoining sovereign nations of Europe must have always sounded attractive if you were a tourist struggling to change currencies economically at every border or if you were blessed to be a politician whose status would change overnight from being a little fish in a small pond to a big fish in the vast European fish tank.
However as the Euro project starts to falter some countries such as Britain are thanking the stars that the peoples wishes to retain sterling were for once listened too whilst the weaker economies such as Greece and the large financial powerhouse of Germany rue the day their pen was ever put to paper.
Let us be fair that in the simplest of terms the ability for the major European economies to harness their countries wealth through monetary union to raise up the flagging nations to one European standard sounds admirable and if it were just a question of placing the money where it was needed the plan may have worked, but as is often the case where political desire outweighs common sense the realities of such a scheme were not properly thought through.
At every stage of the development of the Euro a wary eye could easily spot the early stages of an accident waiting to happen.
Vital issues such as Fiscal Union (a common rule of financial management) were brushed under the carpet to be considered at some later date.
European parliamentary members with negligible training or experience were hoisted to positions of high power of the project purely on grounds of internal popularity or as a strategic sweetener.
The "What ifs" of good management practice just weren't explored for fear that case sensitive issues may be uncovered:
What if - Economies were weak because of top level corruption.
What if - The peoples of a member state refused to tow the line.
What if - A geographically strategic state created an economical threat to the Euro.
An outside observer could also ask who would actually police and monitor this new Euro super currency, the answer being primarily the European Parliament itself, does not install confidence when this very body has failed to pass an audit without qualification since its first days of formation.
Greece having been dropped into a deep hole by its former governing body cannot cut much deeper than it has without an outright mutiny of it's citizens, its gross national product almost entirely dependent upon tourism, teeters on a knife edge as visitors head elsewhere due to the countries financial insecurity and Europe itself enforces a punitive loan policy that with interest added will ensure the Greek Islands under the Euro will remain a threat indefinitely.
Add to this similar tales from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Belgium and who knows where else and it becomes no surprise that Germany the main net provider of wealth into this pot shows it's own signs of struggle to commit it's hard working population to comparative austerity whilst trying to keep these other struggling states afloat.
A flexible monetary mechanism would have been devised allowing the weaker members to protect their position by devaluation against a higher rate achieved by the stronger players.
A method of extraction from the Euro should also have been created for members who can't or won't maintain the criteria needed, however without this economy collapse or sovereign debt default remain the only ultimate options available to struggling states from which the resultant seismic wave of damage would not only be felt in Europe but throughout the financial markets of the world.
It is no wonder that several countries have chosen not to adopt the Euro as their currency and as the history books are written they will give thanks that this was their choice.

IP 101: Maintenance of Your Intellectual Property
By Rick Michaud Platinum Quality Author
IP licensing portfolio
If you have a licensing portfolio, that is, licenses with other parties which allow you to use their IP or vice versa, it's a good idea to periodically review the licenses to make sure everything is in order. If there are any missing copies, appendices, etc., make sure to obtain those copies.
Next, review the licenses and confer with the necessary people to make sure the licenses are being followed. Finally, review all outstanding draft licenses. If you are awaiting a draft from another party, follow up. Trademark portfolio
Portfolios of pending and registered trademarks should be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure pendency and/or registration is maintained. First, we recommend you review your docket and identify upcoming deadlines with respect to outstanding office actions in both the U.S. and foreign countries. We also recommend reviewing your docket to identify renewals and foreign filing deadlines that are coming due within the next year. Next, we recommend reviewing the portfolio to determine whether assignment data is correct. Lastly, we recommend you review your organization's portfolio to determine whether all marks are correctly labeled as a registered mark (®) or a common law mark (™). Patent Portfolio
With respect to patent portfolios, we recommend similar action items as discussed with respect to trademark portfolios. First, we recommend reviewing your docket for any outstanding office actions and identify any upcoming foreign filing deadlines. Decisions regarding responding to office actions and foreign filing will help plan the patent budget of your organization. Similarly, we recommend a review of upcoming maintenance fees to make decisions on whether patents should be maintained.
We also recommend reviewing assignment information recorded with the respective patent offices and updating such information as necessary.
Conclusion
The above-mentioned suggestions are meant as a starting point in a regular review of an IP portfolio. There are additional factors that should be considered and reviewed, including citation of prior art in pending patent applications, follow-up with decision makers regarding filing trademark and patent applications, and reviewing employment contracts to make sure confidentiality and IP assignment clauses are included therein. Running a company is virtually like the inner working pieces of a good-sized machine. One part stops working or snags, and KABOOM! the machine blows up.
How does this relate to business? Your company is made up of employees, services, repair/maintenance personnel, office equipment, IT, quality control, sales, marketing, hiring, etc. The most efficient method is to hold regular weekly staff meetings whereby agreements are formulated for the important upcoming week's functions and production.
Here are some suggestions or ideas on ways to conduct a staff meeting:
* Select a time and place that works so EVERY employee may be present and represented. * Come prepared! Adding a staff meeting each week will not only bolster production, but may also help your company work and feel more like a team. Craig Ferreira, CEO

Employee Coordination - Making the "Machine" Work!

One might hold these over a lunch hour, having each bring their own food one day a week and eating together while meeting; PLEASE ENSURE TO FOLLOW YOUR EMPLOYEE LABOR LAWS AS THESE VARY STATE TO STATE REGARDING SUCH
MEETINGS - in some the employer must pay the employee for this hour if such a meeting is considered "working".
* Come prepared! Have the above prepared in advance; bring your notes and the sequence of items to cover so the meeting goes smoothly. * Focus on and acknowledge all wins and successes of the group. Note again that "COORDINATION" is the key word here and should be your entire purpose and focus for the meetings.

Barcelona Football Tickets - See One of the World's Greatest Clubs For Yourself
By Jeff Moregate
FC Barcelona has supporters located around the world, making it one of the best-supported clubs. Added to that is Barcelona proving to be such a hit as a city break destination - it is therefore little wonder that so many visitors reserve Barcelona football tickets in advance. Tickets are available from the official website, although the seats are often spread about and not next to each other. However, official ticket agents offer tickets at a higher price and can supply continuous blocks of tickets for most matches.
While Laporta had promised to bring David Beckham to the club, the English player had other ideas and signed with Barcelona's arch-rival instead - Real Madrid. In place of Beckham, Laporta's team of directors brought in Ronaldinho, who stunned fans with his exciting and enthusiastic style of play. Other notable players of the period included Iniesta, Deco and Samuel Eto'o, while Victor Valdes and Carles Puyol remain popular local lads.
Where to buy Barcelona football tickets
Tickets for matches at the Nou Camp are available from the stadium box office, the FC Barcelona website and as Barça shops located in the city centre. Top matches like Barcelona versus real Madrid sell out quickly and very few tickets are available for the general public. However tickets are available on the internet from the websites of official ticket agents.
Don't miss out on one of the most exciting football clubs in the world - buy Barcelona Football Tickets in advance and have them delivered to your hotel when you arrive.

Theatre Show Tickets
By John Smith Stevenson
If you search for show tickets, you'll find numerous different sites offering all they can for you to buy your tickets from them. The smaller names is what we're interested in and getting people interested in local theatre again. There are blogs all over the internet for local theatre, which is great, in Birmingham for instance there is a small theatre called The Crescent, a wonderful theatre, run by the community and volunteers, but these guys are performers from across the Birmingham theatre scene, they will do shows here for exposure but you're more than likely to see them performing at the REP or the Alex.
If you search for London Shows or London Theatre Tickets the results are in their thousands on what show is the best for you to see and why.
Rather than sitting in a stuffy London theatre for 2 hours surrounded by tourists.
In Birmingham, The REP theatre company has just announced it's Christmas show for this year; Sleeping Beauty, always a classic and fun for all the family as is always the case at the rep, but it's not in it's usual location, The REP theatre company's usual location is being refurbished for the Cities bid for city of culture in 2013, the company is touring this year and their Christmas show will be on the crescent theatre, for more info visit the rep's website or one of the many blogs around about Birmingham theatres.
If theatre interests you and you want to go along to local theatre then search your local venues for smaller shows, you'll be surprised as to the ticket offers you can get for local theatre, here's a good blog that I found for finding local London Theatre Tickets.

A Football Souvenir For the World Cup - What Are Tomorrow's Antiques?
By Paul Jeffrey
Remember 1966? You might not. Perhaps you've seen the grainy footage of Geoff Hurst banging in the fourth goal in the Cup final against Germany and the commentator saying 'They Think It's All Over, it is now'. Well this is 2010 and we are all hoping for England to do well in the World Cup in South Africa.
Anyone with a ticket from the 66 World Cup or a programme from the final is the owner of a great football souvenir. Even programmes and tickets for the games from the early rounds can fetch good prices. This kind of football memorabilia changes hands for a lot of money and football gifts from each world cup final become more collectible with time. In 1966 the England players were all awarded medals when they won the competition. In 1998 Bobby Moore's wife Tina, who was married to Bobby for 21 years sold his medal at auction to secure the financial future for herself and her two children. The medal was estimated at between £60,000 to £80,000.
Shirts signed by players during the big tournaments are also highly treasured by collectors, as are match day balls.
On a smaller scale, any product that was made specifically for an event like the World Cup will, if kept in a decent condition, gain value with age. In 1966 the mascot 'World Cup Willie' was everywhere, available as a soft toy, a jigsaw puzzle and even endorsing breakfast cereals. Nowadays a collector with 'Willie' merchandise from 1966 is able to see items for hundreds of pounds.
Serious collectors buy products and don't even take them out of the boxes, ensuring they retail their value and authenticity. Who would have though movie merchandise from the original Star Wars films would be so valuable today. The same can be said for football souvenirs from the World Cup.

The traditional national teams like Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Cote d'ivoire, Congo, Tunisia, Algeria, Mali and Zambia would all be there to entertain the teeming followers of the African soccer fiesta. Countries favoured to lift the trophy at the end of the tournament include Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d'ivoire, Cameroon, Algeria, the defending champions Egypt and the host nation Angola which is an emerging soccer giant in the African continent.
The likes of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel, Salomon Kalou, Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure, Eboue, Peter Osaze Odiwingie, Vincent Enyama, Samuel Eto'o, Zidane, Mohammed Abu Tarika, Taiye Taiwo, Obafemi Martins, Dominic Adiyiah, Opoku Agyemang, etc. would all be paraded by their respective countries. Millions of soccer fans world-wide would be glued to their television sets to feed their eyes with artistic soccer display throughout the period of the Africa cup of nations' championship 2010. Samuel Eto'o would certainly be the centre of attraction: being the highest goal scorer of all time in the African nations cup history a lot would be expected from him. Would he deliver again this time around? Or would someone else equal or break his record? That would be an uphill task for any player at the moment. Another player that would also attract much attention is Didier Drogba of Chelsea Fc who is currently the highest goal scorer in the Barclays English premiership. With Drogba scoring close 20 goals in the first half of the league a lot of soccer fans would expect him to do very well in Angola.
The question on everyone's lips is 'who lifts the trophy at the end', Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d'ivoire, Cameroon, Egypt or Angola? The end shall tell as each of the above-listed countries has the wherewithal to lift this year's Africa cup of Nations' trophy. As the various teams file out to confront each other and entertain their teeming spectators, they should remember to approach each game in the spirit of 'fair play' as the game of soccer is built on the grounds of fostering unity and love amongst the competing nations, and should not be a theartre of war or a do-or-die affair. As the tournament finally winds to a close on 31st Jan. 2010, one thing is sure- there would be a new African champions, but who would that be? Till then.

Soccer Predictions By Alex Napier
Soccer Predictions
By Alex Napier Everyone has a view on soccer predictions which is often based on the team that they support rather than statistics and form. This, unfortunately, means that many bets go by the wayside as the selections are often based on emotion and the inclination that their team is going to win this week just because they have that 'feeling'.
This is obviously music to the ears of the bookmakers and they will gladly let them bet on their 'feelings' all day long. In the same way that some people place a bet on a horse because it has got their favourite colour in its name or something similar, many people will just base their soccer predictions on their favourite team.
Now, I'm going to suggest that, unless you support a team like Manchester United or one of the other top teams around the world you don't place a bet on "your own" team. The very fact that you support the team will completely cloud your judgement and even if they have lost their last five matches and have no real chance in this one there will be only one thought in your mind - that this week they will win. So, leave your own team out of your calculations and watch your profits increase.
Now we have that out of the way you can concentrate on making your soccer predictions based on fact, not fiction. If you are going to get into this game you might as well take it seriously and you will soon see the profits start to accumulate. There will be the added bonus that when "your team" loses you won't have lost money on it!
It is more than likely that you are generally interested in soccer and there is a very good chance that you have picked up quite a bit of knowledge over the years. Probably far more than you realise, so now that the emotion is out of the way you can start looking at the different leagues and even venture a little further with regard to foreign football and start to utilise some of your knowledge in the bets that you are placing.
Get into the routine of making your soccer predictions based on the current form of the teams involved and take into account any injuries or illnesses that may affect the players. Has there been an international break with certain players having to travel half of the way round the world and back within a couple of days? What effect would that have?
It's all part of the jigsaw of making your soccer predictions and the time you spend on your research could well be extra money in your pocket.

World Cup 2010 - Analysis and Predictions By Jimmy Tong
Historical Fact
Based on historical data, no team from Europe has ever lifted the World Cup outside Europe. A country from the host continent eventually won every single World Cup except for Brazil in 1958 when they won in Sweden. When the first World Cup on Asian soil was held in 2002 in Korea and Japan, the eventual winner was not an Asian country but Brazil again. Asian countries were not ready to win yet, although S. Korea came close. These are the historical facts of the World Cup for the past 100 plus years. Eight years on, do you think an African country is actually ready to lift the World Cup on their home soil? Foolhardy are the ones who bet against history.
Our approach will be to bet on a South American country to lift the World Cup again outside of Europe, with some money put into an African country to do a first in history.
Analysis of Teams
Brazil has been winning too often and their odds are pretty low at 4.5, but still good. Some money must go to them.
Argentina is the dark horse. Not many people give them a chance because they have a certain eccentric Diego Maradona at their helm. They do have wonderfully talented players at their disposal and I just have this feeling that they will make all their critics eat their words by bonding together despite all their unwanted attention on Diego. Reminds me a bit of Italy at the last World Cup. The Italians had lots of trouble with team spirit, someone dying and so on. But they managed to use that as a bonding tool to get the team together to play effective football to win the World Cup.
England, as usual is over rated. Fabio Capello will only get them so far. History will not be kind to this talented lot of players. Gerard, Rooney, Lampard, Terry will have a good World Cup, but only up to the Semis again. I have a strange feeling that they will go out on penalties again. Guess who will miss the crucial spot kick?
My, famed Portugal will go out in round one this time. Too bad they are in the group of Death. They are too dependent on Ronaldo. I am afraid Carlos is not a Scolari this time round. Anyway, apart from Ronaldo, the other players are all mediocre.
I like the African teams. This World Cup might just be their one. Over the past World Cups they have shown the world that they are talented, skillful and capable of upsetting the best. Remember Roger Milla and the Indomitable Lions. Now with more high profile players in Europe and more importantly, with better technical coaches hired, and on their home soil, this could be the World Cup that new grounds are broken. The first African Nation to lift the World Cup on home soil? It will not be South Africa, not with Piennar type of players. The real caliber players are with Ivory Coast and even Ghana. Players like Drogba, Toure, Kalou, Essien are great players with great experience. They might just take the next great leap for African players.
As for Asian teams, I think they have had their go. It is neither their time nor place to bring in another great performance this time round. Teams underestimated their abilities in 2002. They won't make the same mistakes again.
Spain. Sigh.... They have the lowest odds. Though talented, they will come up short against the South Americans. Winning the European Championship is one thing. Winning the World Cup against Brazil and Argentina is another. Furthermore, they are not in Europe. Good luck to them.
Germany and Italy? Their era is over. Look at their leagues at the moment. Hard to imagine them coming out with winners away from Europe.
